Thanks Catherine! It's interesting that sugar seems to be the new salt or new fat - all of it is labelled as bad and should be cut out of the diet. Unfortunately, we still haven't learnt that nature is very complex and our overly simplistic diet trends harm our health. I'm of the opinion that life on one level or another is all about sugar - monosaccharides, disaccharides, oligosaccharides, chocolate ;)

Would have loved to be at the talk. Exactly my idea of a good time. Will have to do some catch up reading.

Great posting, as always. It's so good to see glycoproteins and polysacchrides listed as healing components. I've been talking about them and their importance because of taking Ambrotose and working with Mannatech. Aloe vera is probably my favourite healing plant. I should have invited you to the talk Thursday, tomorrow night at the Intercontinental Hotel at 7:30. Dr Boyd will be talking about the new scientific studies being done on the efficacy of healing compounds made from plants. It's the stabilization of the healing compounds in the plants that is always the tricky bit. Growing you own will always be the best but when you have to take a plant in a capsule it's good to know who you can trust. Larch tree bark is another interesting healing compound used by the Native Americans. Not sure how long it takes to grow a larch tree.

My valerian may have been deceiving. The 2 metre flower stalks went all higgeldy piggeldy in the wind, to put it mildly. But the flowers are so pretty that a well framed shot like this was a necessity. I do so like valerian and it is such a wonderful companion for my beans :)

Wee obsessions are one of the gardener's greatest tools. Loving that Valerian pic. It never looks that neat and tidy for me. Maybe it's time to try again!

Thank you. But you too can have this rather easily. It takes very little space to grow these herbs, even though most of them can get out of control if you let them :)
